This seems to be https://gitlab.com/postmarketOS/osk-sdl/-/issues/148 
upstream. Upstream's current direction is to move to unl0kr instead of 
osk-sdl, so it's somewhat unlikely that that this will be fixed unless 
someone experiencing the issue tracks the bug down.


I'd recommend testing whether unl0kr solves the issue if you're on 
Sid/Unstable.

Dear Maintainer,

Just to add my experience, osk-sdl exhibits the same behaviour on my 
installation even though only when a hardware keyboard is plugged in.

If the keyboard is detached, osk-sdl appears immediately. On the 
contrary, if booting my device with a hardware keyboard attached, then I 
just get a blank screen, and an input (e.g. touching the screen, 
pressing a button on the keyboard) is required to make the osk-sdl 
screen appear.
