These bugs are the same type as #1040787. Thus far, the only trigger that we've been able to identify is a dist-upgrade (or full-upgrade) from bullseye to bookworm. I ran these in a 'su -' environment on real machines. It may be that the actual trigger condition is buster2bullseye2bookworm. #1040690, which is currently filed against emacs-el (with an "affects dh-elpa") appears to have the most activity as well as user-confirmed reproducibility. Note that this is a disruptive bug to users, who are having to resort to heavy-handed methods. To all affected users: Do you remember if you ever manually installed an affected elpa-package from sid/unstable or from testing? I'm curious if this might be part of the trigger condition. Likewise, do you remember if you installed dh-elpa from backports? While I think both of these cases are unlikely to have caused problems, one might as well be thorough! Regards, Nicholas
