Bug#1033024: lios hangs when opening Preferences

2023-04-04 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Nice fix in 2.7.2-5, Samuel. :) (Why didn't I try that?) That version
ought to be fine for both Debian 12 and Ubuntu 23.04, and you will be
able to consider the 'full upstream approach' in experimental later.

Yes, you're welcome to do it!

Ok, then I'm going to upload what I have. Hopefully it is an overall
improvement. The patch I added isn't pretty, but proved to be needed for
me when testing.

Or do you possibly think that the release team would approve also
this for Debian 12?

It depends on the changes size :)

Unfortunately the diff is rather big. Personally I wouldn't want to
justify it towards the release team...

Ok, good :)

Bug#1033024: lios hangs when opening Preferences

2023-03-15 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson

Package: lios
Version: 2.7.2-4

Hi again Samuel!

My apologies for a somewhat vague bug report, but here we go:

There seems to be more issues with lios besides not specifying Gtk version.

The reason why I involved myself is that an Ubuntu user asked about the
lios status on a mailing list. That made me add the patch to specify
versions of imported libs, but the user keeps complaining. :/ This time
about a freeze when opening Preferences. And I could reproduce that too.

I see that there are quite a few fixes upstream, and at the same time
it's apparent that upstream does not care much about conventional
releases. So I decided to create a new upstream tarball from the git
repo and see if that improves things. I uploaded it to an Ubuntu PPA for
now:

https://launchpad.net/~gunnarhj/+archive/ubuntu/lios

And yes, even if I don't really use the application, it no longer
complains if I open the Preferences menu.

I'll check with the user and hear if they consider that version to be an
improvement. If they do, I would like to get it into Ubuntu 23.04 at
least. (Ubuntu is in the equivalent of "soft freeze" ATM.)

The question to you is if you would like me to add it to the repo and
upload to experimental. Or do you possibly think that the release team
would approve also this for Debian 12?

Let me know. I won't touch the Debian repo again until I know what you
think.
