Package: qmail-src
Version: 1.03-38
Severity: normal

When the package is built the user must then install it, but qmail
conflicts with MTA. The only way to do the install is to remove the
MTA, usually exim4. But using "apt-get remove exim4" removes mailx and
this forces the removal of the mysql package, crashing web services.
This can be avoided by using

 dpkg --remove --force-depends exim
 dpkg --install /tmp/qmail/qmail_1.03-36_i386.deb

but this isn't at all obvious to many Debian users, since it requires an
intentional breaking of dependencies, which is contrary to the most
basic Debian procedures. I would suggest the package that is generated
by the build, i.e. qmail_1.03-36_i386.deb , either simply not require
removal of the previous MTA package or provide instructions or a script
that removes it while preserving dependencies.

Thanks,

Dan Woodard
