Hi, I strongly opt to reconsider applying this patch. Let me provide an use case: In our company, we often package CPAN packages that are not (yet) in debian. We always give the initial package the version CPANVERSION-1~bc.1 so if the package should be added to debian later, the version of our package will always be lower than the version in the debian repository. Having to parse the CPAN version and construct the version number manually is at least clumsy.
