Package: gpsd Version: 2.33-4 gpsd configures udev (and hotplug) to grab hold of the tty created when a pl2303 device (several vendor / product ID combinations) is attached to the system.
This is not quite right, although some gps devices incorporate pl2303 the pl2303 is also used in generic usb<->serial adapters which may be supporting other types of devices. gpsd accessing the tty of non-gps devices can cause incompatibility. gpsd must be killed and device may need to be reset. easy fix is to comment out the lines in /etc/udev/gpsd.rules (or /etc/hotplug/usb/gpsd.usermap presumably), but this breaks gpsd loading when a legitimate gps device with a pl2303 is attached. rambling thoughts: Difficult problem to solve, since the order the devices are attached seems to determine the device minor number. Perhaps there is a way to figure out what's on the other end of the pl2303. Or just deal with it not loading and let the user or an interactive subsystem intercede. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble?
