Package: samba Version: 3.0.24-6 Severity: minor File: /usr/sbin/smbd I do not have too much experience with samba and have just called smbpassword on my user account to set a password (which succeeded without warning) and then spent the next 30 minutes debugging why no login was possible. smbpasswd -a mh (as root) was necessary.
In these situation, with log level 5, all that was found in the log file was that smbd was trying to log me in as root. It neither said that I was trying to log in as "mh", nor that the user I was trying to log in as was not existent or not activated. This should be improved.
