Bug#425803: texlive-base-bin: Version 2007-8 does not configure

Svante Signell [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

I first made the installs mentioned above on another box not having
jadetex installed. Later I did the same on the one with jadetex after
removal of jadetex and docbook-utils: dpkg -r jadetex docbook-utils

After that I hold the texlive-base-bin package. No luck with the
texlive-base or texlive-base-bin version 2007-8 on either boxes. Have
not tried with 2007-9 versions. Should they work?

All texlive versions should work as soon as the conffiles are present -
in other words, in case the buggy tetex-base has been purged, as soon as
the list of texlive packages mentioned earlier has been installed with
force-confmiss.

Do I understand correctly that upgrading to the latest texlive packages
in sid still doesn't work on your system? This means that either some
conffiles are still missing, or that there is yet an other bug.

If upgrading really still fails, can you please send the error message
and the temporary file, if applicable?

After this I successfullly reinstalled jadetex (3.13-8) and
docbook-utils (0.6.14-1), but removing them in the first place does not
seem necessary, since version 3.13-8 is dated May 2.

What do you infer from the date of jadetex?

I have now upgraded to tetex-base-bin 2007-9 and tetex-base 2007-7 after
restoring the conffiles. I assume the other packages will install properly
too, will do that now. What puzzles me is that restoring the conffiles did not
succeed with 2007-8 and 2007-7, respectively, I had to go back to 2007-7
and 2007-6 to do so. The other packages had to be downgraded due to
dependencies. Will report if any new errors occur, otherwise all is fine
with me regrading this bug report.

Nothing, I saw that -8 is the new version even since it is dated May 2.
Maybe you also saw the -7.1 works, at least with base-bin-7 and base-6.

This is really strange. It just worked here with texlive-base_2007-7

Do you by chance have the fmtutil tempfiles left from the unsuccessful
try of confmiss-Installation of the newer versions (2007-8 and 2007-7)?

Ah, well. jadetex seems to have a couple of bugs, I'm not sure whether
they're related. Let's forget about that for now; we're going to take
it over, and I'm preparing an upload of -8 which will change a lot of
things.

Unfortunately I have rebooted since the upgrade so the files in /tmp/
are lost. Maybe I can upgrade yet another box from previous texlive
install (have to check) by first purging tetex-bin and installing the
new texlive-base (2007-7) and texlive-base-bin (2007-8). Version 2007-9
of texlive-base-bin seem to work for you as described above. Maybe this
is not even interesting since the latest version is now 2007-9 :-)

To reinstall texlive I had to do the following: (unfortunately some

(Missing packages should be a temporary problem)

The packages below seems to be available again :)

Frank: What about uploading jadetex -8 as we have it in svn??? I have

I had completely forgotten about jadetex, and when I noticed it again

its own package.

But I think this was just stupid; in the long run we want to build it
from texlive sources, but now, let's just go ahead and upload a working

Will you do that today?

If you report an error when running one of the TeX-related binaries
(latex, pdftex, metafont,...), or if the bug is related to bad or wrong
output, please include a MINIMAL example input file that produces the

other files that are needed, e.g. bibtex databases. Often it also helps
to include the logfile. Please, never send included pictures!

You got bitten by #420390, Purging tetex transition packages removes
texlive configuration files, and the same problem was also reported
against texlive-base.

This bug is solved now, but for those who already did purge, the only
solution is to reinstall the affected texlive packages with the dpkg
option --force-confmiss.

The packages affected are

texlive-base,
texlive-base-bin,
texlive-latex-base,
texlive-latex-extra
texlive-pictures

  md5sums of texmf.d

I'm still stumbling on the jadetex bug when trying to reinstall
texlive-base-bin.
How to get around this problem? Do I have to wait for a fixed version?

Bug#425803: texlive-base-bin: Version 2007-8 does not configure

Purge jadetex, then

 dpkg -i --force-confmiss
 /var/cache/apt/archives/texlive-base-bin_2007-8_i386.deb

We hope to fix this by taking over jadetex soon.

Frank: What about uploading jadetex -8 as we have it in svn??? I have
already worked through all this:
jadetex (3.13-8) unstable; urgency=low

  * Changed Maintainer to Debian TeX Task Force with approval of Ohura-san
  * changed to quilt for patching files [np]
- add quilt to build deps
- change rules file
  * remove tetex alternative dependencies [np]
  * add build-dep on tex-common (= 1.4) [np] (Closes: #403610)
  * move dh compat settings to debian/compat (lintian warning) [np]
  * write changelog entry in utf8 [np]
  * move dh_installtex call to pdftex (for jadetex and pdfjadetex) [np]
  * do not create the format links (are created by dh_installtex)
(Closes: #419819)
  * remove the .ini hack, a wrongly set jobname/engine interferes with
the search path ordering
  * The above together with depending on texlive 2007 fixes the interference
with texlive-lang-cyrillic (Closes: #419026, #419020) [np]

Is there something missing, if yes we can do it later. But this is
urgent?

Best wishes

Norbert
