I've just hit this bug again, with openoffice.org 2.3.1-1, and XOrg 7.3 packages from Sid. There appears to be a workaround for the problem available now - see the info at https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=245711. Concensus seems to indicate that this isn't a correct solution, but
