Note that on new installations the directory /var/run/identd is also no longer created. As the /etc/inetd file still specifies that the service should be run as user 'identd' and as that user still _is_ being created, it still seems to me that this directory should be created and used. --

Package: pidentd Version: 3.0.19.ds1-3 Severity: serious In my logs I noticed: identd[8496]: s_open(/var/run/identd.pid, O_WRONLY): Permission denied Which can be explained as it runs as identd and not as root. Because of this, there is a special directory in /var/run: $ ls -ld /var/run/identd/
