The log in problem with gmail contacts agent is solved by copying the new libgmail-0.1.6.1 lgconstants.py and libgmail.py into /usr/share/pycentral/python-libgmail/site-packages/ .
This gives us a somewhat cludgy way to email compressed images through digikam using gmailagent. The alternative is installing Google's own Picasa which just works beautifully.
