Steve, I've found a reason of this buggy behavior. My cvs is run chrooted under cvsd. And cvsd-buildroot has failed to updated glibc correctly, namely, it has silently left obsolete /lib/tls/libc.so.6 inside cvs chroot. This obsolete version of libc.so.6 prevented cvs from running correctly. To
