Bug#457957: xserver-xorg: X server eats too much memory
Stefanos Harhalakis wrote: Apart from that, I believe that 1.5GB for X server a serious problem when caused by firefox when visiting google maps. Just go to google maps and watch the X server memory increasing by each move you do. It takes just a few minutes to exhaust system memory. Should I fill this bug report against firefox/iceweasel instead ? The reason is that Firefox asks the server to create tons of pixmap to store some images, textures, ... So maybe firefox is asking too much, but the server should be able to refuse at some point and maybe even drop some old pixmaps (not sure what it is supposed to do exactly these days). Anyway, there are some memory leak fixed in the upcoming Xserver 1.4.1, we'll see what happens soon. Brice -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? If that memory gets freed when you kill the firefox process, then it's not an X server bug. Cheers, Julien -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Perhaps you should ignore this report until it happens again and I have more details using xrestop. You should look at xrestop to find out who is allocating memory through the X server. I am merging with another similar bug.
