Well, I consider this a minor bug in the wrapper, and not a serious
problem, I must admit. I've asked on debian-java for help on the
issue. I am confident a solution to
severity 472285 serious

What jvm are you using to execute josm?
I use gij 4:4.3.0-1 (latests available in unstable)
Could you please try to run josm with either gij-4.1 or jamvm and post
the result?
On gij-4.1 it worked a bit,
This can be seen as a bug in the wrapper. A better version shold be
discussed with the Debian Java team. I've had success running josm
with jamvm and gij, but see there are visual glitches when using
Classpath. These are bugs in Classpath, as far as I know.
It currently work best with SUN

Well, my experience is a bit odd: first of all, I see many
differences if I work in my main sid or in a little chroot, sid too
(they both up-to-date).
I've only tested using a sid chroot.
With jamvm (command: JAVACMD=jamvm josm):
- Inside the chroot things are going
