Thanks a lot for this workaround. I'll point to this for
people who wants to know.

In case the link vanishes the instruction is the following:

Just got that fixed by adding 'export XKL_XMODMAP_DISABLE=1' in
$HOME/.vnc/xstartup before the last line /etc/X11/Xsession

I will also change the default startup script to include this
line.
