Bug#489997: ddclient: [dyndns] update interval 5min causes ban

In dyndns.org case that'd be 7 minutes. Sorry, but I would hate to implement this. There are already so many software packages that infantilize the user. It is unfortunate that the host gets banned, so please consider some safeguard into the code. What I would suggest is to add an explanation to the debconf question for the update interval, updating the default to 10 min. Additionally, I could generate a warning if a low value is input. There are all good improvements. Personally I'm afraid the warning message in syslog is too late to take actions due to harm already done at dyndns side. Would any of the above suggestions to be difficult to implement? If you're busy elsewhere, I could help to take a look at the code and suggest a patch if you are willing. Package: ddclient Version: 3.7.3-4.1 Severity: normal DESCRIPTION Setting update interval to 5m causes dydns provider to ban the host. SUGGESTION Please iplement safeguard so that too low update intervals are: 1) either not accepted (print error message) 2) automatically scale the interval up to the safe limit and print warning. Quoting Torsten Landschoff ([EMAIL PROTECTED]): What I would suggest is to add an explanation to the debconf question for the update interval, updating the default to 10 min. Additionally, I could generate a warning if a low value is input. Okay for you? I'm not the original bug reporter but that would be OK only if you include a translation update round after changing the debconf templates *and before* uploading the changed version. signature.asc Description: Digital signature
