Bug#493134: xserver-xorg-video-ati: no resolution higher than 640x480 possible

2008-08-06 Thread Eike Nicklas

Please try again with the driver from git. I fixed up several RS4xx
 issues today.

I used the version from sid (accoding to git, it already contains the
changes) and everything works fine now.

Without the panelsize option, the x-contents were shown in the top-left
corner of the screen and with the panelsize option, everything works as
expected.

Thanks a lot for your help,
Eike

PS: If this is/was a more general problem and you need something to be
tested, please let me know. Otherwise, feel free to close this report.

 Hi Julien and Alex,

thanks for your feedback. The panelsize hint was a good one, I think. At
least I have the same symptoms as other people with a missing panelsize
option. However, adding it to xorg.conf (see attachment) only resulted in
a blank screen. According to the log (also attached), the options is read,
but for some reason not used...

Etch does not have this problem, but using the xorg.conf file from Etch
does not fix this on Lenny. This happens both on i386 and amd64.

xorg.conf and xorg log are attached.

Please re-assign to xorg if this is not ati-specific. I don't know much
about xorg :-(, so please let me know if you need more information or can
point me to the right direction.

Is this a laptop or a desktop machine? If it's a desktop machine, it
shouldn't have lvds at all and we may need a quirk.

The log says:

(WW) RADEON(0): No Panel Info Table found in BIOS!
(II) RADEON(0): Existing panel PLL dividers will be used.
(WW) RADEON(0): Panel size 640x480 is derived, this may not be correct.
If not, use PanelSize option to overwrite this setting.

Did you try that?

Cheers,
Julien
