Package: hplip Version: 2.8.6-2 Severity: normal Hi
when connecting a printer to the system, when hal-cups-utils is installed, the printer is auto-configured. syslog shows such an example : Aug 9 12:08:07 rms hal_lpadmin: add Aug 9 12:08:08 rms python: hp-makeuri[15185]: warning: hp-makeuri should not be run as root. Printers must use the hp: or hpfax: CUPS backend to function in HPLIP. Maybe there's some compatibility issue to solve here. Or maybe the bug is with hal-cups-utils which should create an hplip compatible device if it is installed ? Maybe there's a need for policy here ? In any case, one will create printer queues automatically, once plugged-in on USB, whereas the other must be launched manually... so I filed the bug on the one which comes later, assuming that the printer created in the first place could be recognized. Hope this helps. Best regards, -- Package-specific info: error: SIP not installed or version not found. error: Version: (Not available. CUPS may not be installed or not running.) Compile-time check mode (-c or --compile): Use this mode before compiling the HPLIP supplied tarball (.tar.gz or .run) to determine if the proper dependencies are installed to successfully compile HPLIP. 2. Run-time check mode (-r or --run): Use this mode to determine if a distro supplied package (.deb, .rpm, etc) or an already built HPLIP supplied tarball has the proper dependencies installed to successfully run. 3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode will check both of the above cases (both compile- and run-time dependencies).
