I am having the same problem. Please reopen this bug! (Why was it marked done anyway?)
Downgrading to 1.6.3 helps, 1.7.2 does NOT work on amd64. LoadPlugin: failed to initialize shared library /usr/lib/flashplugin-nonfree/libflashplayer.so [/usr/lib/flashplugin-nonfree/libflashplayer.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS32] Please restore the nspluginwrapper setup as it was done in 1.6.3...
