I had my sights set on Java property files, but it turned out they were... a bit complicated, what with Unicode, quoting, and such, so I left them out of 1.00. Then, you might want to consider Augeas for this purpose (Debian package are already available). Augeas has the ability to read and write INI files (and other files as well) See http://augeas.net for details HTH -- Dominique Dumont Delivering successful solutions requires giving people what they need, not what they want. Bug#502543: ITP: confget -- Utility to read variables from a configuration file
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: Peter Pentchev [EMAIL PROTECTED] * Package name: confget Version : 1.00 Upstream Author : Peter Pentchev [EMAIL PROTECTED] * URL : http://devel.ringlet.net/textproc/confget/ * License : Two-clause BSD Programming Lang: C Description : Utility to read variables from a configuration file The confget utility examines a INI-style configuration file and retrieves the value of the specified variables from the specified section. Its intended use is to let shell scripts use the same INI-style configuration files as other programs, to avoid duplication of data. The confget utility may retrieve the values of one or more variables, list all the variables in a specified section, list only those whose names or values match a specified pattern (shell glob or regular expression), or check if a variable is present in the file at all. It has a shell-quoting output mode that quotes the variable values in a way suitable for passing them directly to a Bourne-style shell. I actually have a pretty-much ready package of confget, listed at the webpage above; all it needs is a change of description, a coalescing of the changelog entries, and it should be ready to go. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) pgpj6Q0yn07nm.pgp Description: PGP signature
