Bug#512617: kernel repeated warnings

2009-03-25 Thread William Cattey
So the one line kernel fix changes things so that the warning is
printed only once.
Is there also a change that corrects the problem in using HPET on
ICH10 hardware

that provokes the warning?

-Bill

Bug#512617: kernel repeated warnings

2009-01-22 Thread A.T. Georges

Package: linux-image-2.6.26-1-686
Version: 2.6.26-13

After installation of lenny on an Hp Compaq dc7900 (model FU202EA)
computer (Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400) and rebooting,

the /var/log/kern.log file grows rapidly and fills up the /var partition
(3 GB) in a few minutes, rendering the installation useless.

Here is a sample of the repeated warning in kern.log:

The partition scheme includes /, /usr, /var, /tmp, /home and /swap
partitions.

I used the
/cdimage/lenny_di_rc1/i386/jigdo-dvd/debian-testing-i386-DVD-1.jigdo
image, build date 04-Nov-2008.
libc-2.7.so

The hardware-summary and lsb-release files are attached.

Any help will be appreciated.

ps we'd expect to have a lenny+1/2 image that targets 2.6.30

This warning was added in 2.6.26.6 and carries this comment:

| We need to read back the CMP register to make sure that
| what we wrote hit the chip before we compare it to the
| counter.

So you either have a hardware problem, broken interrupt routing or
broken firmware. Please try a BIOS upgrade first.
