Which environment do you start? KDE 3.5 from Lenny (not experimental). Do you change the keyboard layout with xmodmap or so? No (at least, directly by me). Does your desktop environment change the keyboard config? Not sure. But before upgrade all works as expected. I use two-language layout,

Second problem seems fixed. For some reason after installing bunch of *-dev packages (for compiling patched video-intel driver) package xserver-xorg-input-synaptics was deleted by aptitude. Why it was deleted - this is another, but still interesting question. After removing *-dev packages and
