Bug#544600: iceweasel-l10n should use same l10n package names as kde-l10n

2012-10-23 Thread Adrien
Hi,

Any news on this bug since April ?

As co-maintainer of calligra, I understand the benefit of a standard way for
localisation. But « pt-br » or «ptbr », I don't care. If a majority already
uses « pt-br », then go for it.

What's the opinion of the KDE team ? Are you ready to change too ?

Best regards,

Adrien

is a heap of packages have the same names, for ex
 openoffice.org-l10n-pt-br. I don't think that KDE is standard :)

$ apt-cache search l10n-pt-br
icedove-l10n-pt-br - Portuguese (Brazil) language package for Icedove
libreoffice-l10n-pt-br - office productivity suite -- Portuguese_brazilian
language package
openoffice.org-l10n-pt-br - office productivity suite -- Portuguese_brazilian
language package
iceweasel-l10n-pt-br - Portuguese (Brazil) language package for Iceweasel

$ apt-cache search l10n-ptbr
kde-l10n-ptbr - Brazilian Portuguese (pt_BR) localization files for KDE
koffice-l10n-ptbr - Brazilian Portuguese (pt_BR) translations for KOffice

Also note the pt_BR in kde packages descriptions...

I'd say pt-br wins both as being used in more independent packages, and
as being more logical.

And there's also:
- scilab-doc-pt-br
- myspell-pt-br
- aspell-pt-br
- debiandoc-sgml-doc-pt-br
vs.
- gcompris-sound-ptbr

 Why? I don't understand.

because, obviously, it sucks that l10n packages do not use the same
naming scheme within debian, making it a pita to know that e.g it's
iceweasel-l10n-pt-br but it's iceweasel-l10n-ptbr etc. which is e.g. a
big problem for debian-live where we want to install l10n packages in an
automatic fashion.

kde-l10n has got the package names correct, ice*-l10n should adapt to that.

Do we have possibility installing one language for all l10n packages?

for what, using a common l10n package naming scheme, or that debian-live
has troubles because the l10n packages are not named consistently?

for the first, there is none in public i guess, for the second,
discussion can be found in the archive of debian-l...@lists.debian.org.

not really, and it doesn't make much sense anyway. however, if the same
naming scheme is used, one can match them with regexp.
