Doing some bts maintenance on the compiz packages and found this old
report...

It's not clear to me how this fixed your problem.  Did you have something
else installed that provided libglu1, or something that diverted the files
from libglu1-mesa?  Wouldn't it be better in any event to tighten up the
runtime dependencies instead of the buildtime ones, if it's true that
there was something else that was mucking up your compiz?

After I tried every possible solution (my primary suspect was metacity)
most obvious solution came to my mind ... Mesa.

I installed libgl1-mesa-glx, and reinstalled libgl1-mesa-dri and
libglu1-mesa and mesa-utils, after I restarted X compiz
was back working as good as new. 

As bug fix I'm including control file where libgl1-mesa-glx is in
Depends-Depends for Compiz package.
