Disabling JIT will be enough as a fix for now. Even better, I came up with a patch for the JIT. I got in the wrong direction because disabling JIT was the first thing I tried, except the GRE preference to do so didn't have any effect, which I didn't expect, and didn't notice the JIT wasn't really disabled.
