Bug#592835: 2.04 available + menu patch + debian/ modernization

2010-09-24 Thread Julian Mehnle
Package: transmission

Is there anything hindering an upload of 2.04 to unstable? I don't care so
much about the patch presented by Barak (no offense) as about being able to
upgrade to vanilla 2.04.

TIA,

-Julian

Yes, the freeze[0].

 I don't care so
much about the patch presented by Barak (no offense) as about being able to
 upgrade to vanilla 2.04.

What's your reason for the upgrade? Are you being hit by one of the bugs
closed in 2.04?
I haven't tried to negotiate a freeze-exception with the release team
for the new version because the lack of bugs complaining about the
issues fixed in this release seems to indicate they're not very
important, but please correct me if I'm wrong. I could try backporting
most - if not all - of them.

Cheers

 Yes, the freeze[0].

I know about the freeze. However, I thought that just affected the
migration of packages from unstable to testing?

I use testing and am comfortable with installing packages from unstable.
I'm not after getting 2.04 into squeeze.

What's your reason for the upgrade? Are you being hit by one of the
 bugs closed in 2.04?

No. Upstream asked me to verify whether a certain bug still exists in
2.04 and I was only able to confirm that it still exists in 2.03.

That is correct, however, once a new version has been uploaded to
unstable, it means any security issue or RC bug in the version in
testing will have to be fixed with a direct upload to testing, which is
sub-optimal. So it's preferable to keep the versions in unstable and
testing in sync during a freeze.

No. Upstream asked me to verify whether a certain bug still exists in
2.04 and I was only able to confirm that it still exists in 2.03.

Ok, that's a valid reason. I'll try to upload the new version to
experimental this weekend. Should help you out without causing
unnecessary issues with the freeze.

Cheers

Experimental is cool, too. Thanks.
