Include python-distutils.mk and declare binary packages with leading 
"python3-" in addition to the "python-" one, and the included snippet 
automagically invokes the correct Python binary and helper tool.

See sleekxmpp as an example.

Interesting.  I suspect, however, that it is still relevant to keep the 
snippets for the various build systems.  But will be great if they can 
be greatly simplified (over time - better not break backwards 
compatibility too hastily even if freuently broken in python packages 
themselves!).
