Bug#607968: [Pkg-xfce-devel] Bug#607968: xfce4-panel: xfce-panel appears as normal window

2011-01-12 Thread Fred Smith
Yves-Alexis,

Sorry I might have misunderstood the output and gotten the versions mixed up. I
think I turned on backports at some point to correct a security bug in
iceweasel, it must have propagated as my logs show in update in September to
4.6.1:
Preparing to replace libxfce4util4 4.4.2-3 (using
.../libxfce4util4_4.6.1-1~bpo50+1_amd64.deb)

Is it easy to test? How would I do it, ie. revert all the packages so that
dependencies are captured correctly? Where do I report the results?

Fred

Bug#607968: [Pkg-xfce-devel] Bug#607968: xfce4-panel: xfce-panel appears as normal window

2011-01-06 Thread Fred Smith
Thanks to Yves-Alexis this bug has been fixed. Thank you Yves-Alexis. I
appreciate a summary of the steps needed to solve a bug. Therefore, I thought I
would provide a quick summary for someone who stumbles across this bug of the
general fix.

Overview:
Bug in xfce4-panel 4.4.2-6 with libglib corrected by upgrading xfce4-panel

Solution Summary:
1. Set xfce4-panel to use backports
 1a. follow instructions here: http://backports.debian.org/Instructions/
 1b. Update apt: apt-get update
 1c. Execute update: aptitude -t lenny-backports install xfce4-panel
1d. Note this only works if the backport version is newer than the normal
package version
2. Verify xfce4-panel upgrade by checking the policy information:
 2a. apt-cache policy xfce4-panel
3. Log-out and log back in for xfce4 to register the update

Note: Once the command in step 1c has run, the normal apt-get update, apt-get
upgrade sequence will install the latest xfce4-panel in backports.

Regards,

As far as I can tell, if you don't apply patches, glib = 2.23.1
combined with xfce 4.6.2 results in this error. [1]

I can say with certainty that 4.4.2-6 and glib 2.24.2 results in the
panel getting window decorations, and that applying this patch [2]
returns it to what you would expect. Fortunately, this will only cause
problems if people are using a mix of packages from backports and stable
(specifically, glib from backports, and xfce from stable) so the
existing solution of upgrading to xfce from backports is still valid.

Bug#607968: xfce4-panel: xfce-panel appears as normal window

2010-12-25 Thread me
Package: xfce4-panel
Version: 4.4.2-6
Severity: normal

Following update of machine and reboot the XFCE4-panel shows up as a normal
window with buttons for maximize, close, minimize, etc. This behavior is
very annoying as the panel content then shifts behind open programs which
are maximized.

Suggested problem source is a libglib update. I confirmed that I updated
libglib before the last shutdown.

 Updated from libglib2.0-0 2.22.4-1~bpo50+1
 Updated to libglib2.0-0_2.24.2-1~bpo50+1_amd64.deb

Attempts to update xfce4 to correct problem, fail because the most current
version in the repository is already installed.
