Package: linux-2.6 Version: 2.6.37-1~experimental.1 Severity: normal I've took the liberty to CC Mattia Dongili as an expert of the sony-laptop module: maybe he could have an opinion.
With this kernel and rc7, but not with .36 and previous version, the LCD brightness of my Sony laptop is raised to its maximum value on boot when the kernel enter KMS mode. This laptop, like many other Sony models, has many parameter controlled by the sony-laptop module and the backlight is one of these. In particular it has the possibility to set the default brightness to set at system start. These are documented in: /usr/share/doc/linux-doc-2.6.37/Documentation/laptops/sony-laptop.txt.gz On my system i have: # cat /sys/devices/platform/sony-laptop/brightness_default 0 # cat /sys/class/backlight/sony/brightness 0 # cat /sys/class/backlight/sony/actual_brightness 0 # cat /sys/class/backlight/sony/max_brightness 7 As you can see i'm using my laptop with brightness set to minimum and the Sony ACPI device is instructed to set the brightness to minimum on boot too. The allowed value are between 0 (min) and 7 (max). This as worked for at least three years. With 2.6.37 the default boot value are clearly not considered or something override that. Maybe a race between sony-laptop and kms?
