I've started to use gthumb with the gio/gvfs backend. I gvfs-mount my Canon EOS 350D camera which then appears in the side pane, and can import photos using “Import from removable devices”. Both in the importer and in the pane, displaying the thumbnails is really slow, it looks as if it was retrieving the whole pictures and thumbnails them, instead of the previous behavior (when it was directly using gphoto2) where it was getting the thumbnail already available from the camera. It'd be nice to bring that back since it means it takes ages to display the picture you want to select for import.
