easy-to-reproduce X server lockups. The Xorg.0.log show the EQ overflowing
message followed by message that the xserver was in an infinite loop.

Since then I've had one similar lock-up with the nvidia driver (but no useful
error messages this time), so I switched to nouveau.
In some cases nouveau works nicely, but display hot-plugging is a little
finicky with the GUI interfaces sometimes leaving me with no display
