Bug#667627: libapache-mod-musicindex: Dropping the apache2-dev virtual package

Yes, that's a bit unfortunate and this was primarily just for your information. You can completely ignore this bug, but you should at least know about the problem. I realize this generates unnecessary work for you, but the alternative would be to require people to declare a versioned build-dependency for all 73 affected reverse dependencies until we get rid of the 2.2 -dev packages entirely. -- with kind regards, Arno Töll IRC: daemonkeeper on Freenode/OFTC GnuPG Key-ID: 0x9D80F36D signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

Have to wonder about the actual use of alternative build-deps ;P Also, I'm not sure I get the point of asking maintainers to remove build-dep on apache2-dev in favor of apache2-threaded-dev when Apache 2.4 will require the exact opposite... Yes, that's a bit unfortunate and this was primarily just for your information. You can completely ignore this bug, but you should at least know about the problem. Well, I'm about to do a bugfix upload of my package, so I guess I can't just ignore the bug for now and I will have to do the build-dep dance. It also means I cannot upload a package that will nicely build with both apache-2.2 AND apache-2.4 from the same source, which I was planning to do to ease backporting work. Bummer. I realize this generates unnecessary work for you, but the alternative would be to require people to declare a versioned build-dependency for all 73 affected reverse dependencies until we get rid of the 2.2 -dev packages entirely. I'm not versed into the specifics, but all I can say is that I liked the idea of the status quo, that is, don't break something that worked well for so long. Maybe it couldn't be done ;-P Cheers -- Thibaut VARENE http://www.parisc-linux.org/~varenet/ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#667627: libapache-mod-musicindex: Dropping the apache2-dev virtual package
Package: libapache-mod-musicindex Severity: normal Dear maintainer, I've just uploaded Apache2 2.2.22-3 which introduces a change which is going to affect your package. To ease our upcoming Apache2 transition towards 2.4 I dropped our virtual development package apache2-dev to avoid dependency resolution problems in buildds with it as long as we haven't uploaded Apache2 2.4 to unstable. However, your package is build-depending on apache2-dev (against the 2.2 version of it) which was up to the latest version a virtual package provided by the real package apache2-threaded-dev. If you plan to upload another version of your package which links against the Apache 2.2 version before we are going to replace it by the 2.4 version anyway (this includes binNMUs, FWIW) it will fail to build from source in future. It can be simply fixed by build-depending on apache2-threaded-dev instead of apache2-dev for your next upload. Note, this is independent of our ongoing Apache2 2.4 transition which requires further changes anyways. -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 3.2.11arno1 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe.
