And this will terribly break users sources.list if they have lines like 
deb http://local.example.com/deb sid main or
deb http://private.example.com/ deb private

please stop telling the user to do step 2:
  # sed -i 's/deb\ /deb\ [arch=amd64,i386]\ /g' /etc/apt/sources.list
It's not needed with the most mirrors and will just break setups where
