FWIW, my issue *appears* to actually be caused by this:

I'm not sure if this is the same bug...
Summary:
occasional/random screen remains blank for ~10 seconds after
typing unlock password (password dialog disappears, screen
is completely blank) (for me, i'd say it happens
90% + of the time)
often followed by up to 30
