There's a list of replacements called $(substitutions) in Makefile.am, which can be used to insert configure variables into the .c sources and also into .xml sources. The substitutions are then inserted using &ENTITY; syntax. I think that currently the whole syntax is not being used, because Lennart removed the substitutions from systemd.unit.xml. But separate /usr is a supported configuration, so I think we should make the man pages follow configured paths.
