Bug#722217: libc6: Update fails halfway with segfault
Dear Maintainer, I previously observed this bug when updating my libc6 packages from 2.18-4 to 2.18-5. Today I upgraded to 2.18-7, and the bug surfaced again. apt history.log Start-Date: 2014-05-31 09:27:11 Commandline: /usr/sbin/synaptic Upgrade: libc-dev-bin:amd64 (2.18-5, 2.18-7), libc-bin:amd64 (2.18-5, 2.18-7), libc6:amd64 (2.18-5, 2.18-7), libc6:i386 (2.18-5, 2.18-7), libc6-i386:amd64 (2.18-5, 2.18-7), libc6-dev:amd64 (2.18-5, 2.18-7) Error: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1) End-Date: 2014-05-31 09:27:14 Start-Date: 2014-05-31 09:27:55 Commandline: /usr/sbin/synaptic Upgrade: libc-dev-bin:amd64 (2.18-5, 2.18-7), libc6:amd64 (2.18-5, 2.18-7), libc6-i386:amd64 (2.18-5, 2.18-7), libc6-dev:amd64 (2.18-5, 2.18-7) Error: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1) End-Date: 2014-05-31 09:27:58 Start-Date: 2014-05-31 09:28:40 Commandline: apt-get install -f Upgrade: libc6:amd64 (2.18-5, 2.18-7) End-Date: 2014-05-31 09:28:45 term.log Preparing to unpack .../libc-bin_2.18-7_amd64.deb ... Bug#722217: libc6: Update fails halfway with segfault
Exactly the same thing happened for me a few times and also today. I have nvidia (now from Testing but sometimes from Unstable/Experimental) and the same sys info the reporter gave. Here I have Gnome, IceWM and E18 but it makes no difference where I use Synaptic. Each time I got my system working again just by pressing ctrl+alt+F1, using sudo apt-get -f dist-upgrade and then, rebooting. The strange thing is that I've never had this problem with my other Debian Testing installed on another partition but with KDE (and with the same versions of nvidia). -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. I forgot to say this: the bug is filed against libgl1-nvidia-legacy-173xx-glx but I don't have it. Bug#722217: libc6: Update fails halfway with segfault
Package: libc6 Version: 2.17-92+b1 Severity: important Dear Maintainer, I was updating my Sid / experimental system through synaptic. Selected update all. After some of the libc6 multiarch packages were updated the installation of the rest of libc6 packages failed due to a segfault on installation of another libc6 dependant package.
