Hi, there're other solutions discussed to solve this priority conflict
that don't increase the size (or far less) of the set of priority
important packages, which should be taken into account before adding
this override

 https://bugs.debian.org/757891
 https://bugs.debian.org/757905

I personally prefer the very first one (#757891).

Bug#759265: override: perl:perl/important perl-modules:perl/important (and some others)

Please consider raising perl's priority to important (and the same for
the packages it depends on). I'll followup with the full list later as I
had it only in emacs's scratch buffer a few days ago...

The Priority: required and essential package perl-base ships the perl
executable and some modules, but its content is not well defined (from
what I understand it is mostly what debconf needs).

I think perl meets the reuirement that it is expected to be installed by
people familar with UNIX and we should provide the full version of perl
by default instead of an ill-defined subset.

Note that this increases the size Priority: important quite a bit, but I
think in practice most systems will have perl anyway. And there's othing
stopping people to remove it for truly minimal systems.

Also note that (according to perl's changelog) the package was Priority:
important in the past, though the changelog doesn't mention when or why
the priority was reduced to standard.

It looks like it's just one more library besides perl and perl-modules
themselves. Here is the list:

  perl Installed-Size: 22.1 MB Download-Size: 2652 kB
  perl-modules Installed-Size: 16.5 MB Download-Size: 2736 kB
  libdb5.3 Installed-Size: 1863 kB Download-Size: 671 kB

So it increases the install size of the important package set by 40.4 MB
and the download size by 5.9 MB.

(For comparison, downgrading aptitude to standard reduced the install
size by ~15 MB and download size by ~3 MB.)
