Bug#760242: parcellite: Do it again! Exactly the same way! - Interfering when marking text

2014-09-02 Thread Hugo Lefeuvre
Hi Matthias,

Thanks for your bug report.
I've looked at your bug but I can't reproduce it now. I'll test it later
in a sid VM, but it isn't really important for the moment because a bug
which is really similar to your bug has been signaled in SF (bug n°133[0]).

Could you look at it and say me if it's corresponding ?

Regards,
 Hugo

Bug#760242: parcellite: Do it again! Exactly the same way! - Interfering when marking text

2014-09-02 Thread Matthias Heil
It looks quite similar, yes. But now I tried fixed it locally as
proposed in that thread and the bug is still present...

What I did:
= = = = = =
* Download parcellite-1.1.8.tar.gz (sourceforge) and decompress it
* Change main.c as proposed
* ./configure
* make
* make install (as root)
* restart parcellite (with respect to the different
directory, /usr/local/bin)
- still present

* aptitude remove parcellite
* restart parcellite
- still present

Did I do everything needed, if that proposed change should change the
behaviour?

If it's helpful for tracing the origin, here some more characteristics:

The second marking can also be done in a different program.

Holding the mouse button or the Shift-Key after marking delays the
behaviour until the button/key is released. The demarking needs about 1s
to happen (which is not pointing to some processing, which is done
before demarking...).

Thanks for providing this tool. I really like it!
Matthias

Bug#760242: parcellite: Do it again! Exactly the same way! - Interfering when marking text

2014-09-01 Thread Matthias Heil
Package: parcellite
Version: 1.1.8-1
Severity: important

This is a really interesting bug and it was hard to notice it. To find
out that it belongs to parcellite (somehow...), was a lucky strike.
Anyway it's important, because it's messing with the copy-paste
behaviour, which is quite important to work when programming.

What happens: if I try to mark text, either with mouse or the keyboard,
the marking is canceled. On the second try, it is not canceled - IF you
choose the same part of the text or more precise you choose the same
content: If you choose the sentence 'Mark me twice' once in line 1 and
once in line 2, it will stay marked.

Test field - try on your own! :)
__
| 1 Mark me twice|
| 2 Mark me twice|
--

Now the next special feature of this bug: it only affects some programs.
I tested these:
Affected: gedit, qalculate, xchat, meld
Not affected: chromium, iceweasel, vlc, geany, konsole, matlab (although
copy and pasting here was strange...), ...

History

I think, when starting with Jessie...

(after not-so-clean upgrade from Wheezy about 1 week ago (needed to
remove and later reinstall a lot because not solvable of dependencies.
(I had used some Jessie-packages and some from Ubuntu to get some newer
program versions, maybe that's the reason... naaah, forget, I probably
removed them all :) ... hopefully you verify this bug!...)

...I experienced a segfault bug, probably #744047
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=744047

and solved it be editing the .config/par.../parcelliterc.

I keep my fingers crossed, that you can reproduce it. In the other case
I probably have to switch away from this great copy-paste-extension.
