Package: apt
Severity: wishlist

Hello,

I recently came across a situation where I wanted to use a Recommends: instead of a Depends: for some specific use cases (the recommended package had a lot of deps), but wanted to be extremely sure that the recommended package did not unwittingly removed (causing annoying bug reports because of partially degraded functionality). It would be great if users were told when a package is not just some randomly installed package with no dependencies, but instead something that another package uses, you know?

Basically along side the "These packages will be REMOVED" type lists, something along the lines of "These packages will not have their recommendations satisfied" with the list of packages.

Is this something that would be good UX-wise in your opinion?

If it is an appropiate feature, any tips on where to look first to get it implemented?

Thanks a ton,
