So the bug is in auto-detection. The Cebra and Braille Star do infact
speak almost the same protocol, and do have, IIRC, identical USB IDs.

 Eeee...

So there's no other way than specifying brltty=ht,usb:, at boot?

What confuses me is that according to the source code, the error
shouldn't happen. In Programs/config.c, we have:

static const char *const usbDrivers[] = {
al, bm, eu, fs, hd, hm, ht, hw, mt, pg, pm,
sk, vo, NULL
};

IOW, ce is deliberately not listed because we *know* it could
conflict.

It would be worthwhile to figure out why it is choosen anyways.

The correct solution for this problem is to stop the Cebra driver from
attempting to auto-detect. the Cebras are *very rare*, since the
company selling them went bancrupt a little before it actually started
to sell them in large volumes. So there are a lot more HT devices out
there. So how is should be is the other way round: If someone has a
Cebra, they should be forced to specify it manually.

I didn't know about that...

Unfortunately it's too late for Jessie 8.0, the debian-installer RC4 is
already uploaded. The fix will have to wait for Jessie 8.1.

Please, debian-accessibility people, when I call for testing the Debian
Installer, do test it. We can not fix things in a hurry at the last
minute.

OK, but why this bug appears in RC2?

It didn't happen at all with RC1? There were uploads of brltty in
between, but they mattered only to xbrlapi and grub. I can also
reproduce the no-detection-at-all issue with it.

The new release of brltty was indeed introduced only in October, but the
Cebra driver itself hadn't really changed since brltty 5.0. Wheezy
however had only brltty 4.4, which didn't have the Cebra driver.

I'm just thinking: perhaps we should exchange the cebra and handytech
drivers? Will the ht driver accept a real cebra device? If not, that
could work. I don't know the market share, but perhaps the inversion
makes sense anyway?

Seems like the auto-detection is going wrong.
Or do you really own a Cebra from NinePoint Systems?

Apr 22 14:04:10 brltty[529]: Cebra Model: 0X74, 40 cells

Could you try to upgrade the version in the installed system to
 5.2~20141018-5?

 It’s already this version.

Ideally you'd manage to run by hand

 brltty -d usb: -b ht -l debug -n -e

inside the installer, and post the resulting log.

 Here in attachement.

I noticed if I restart brltty, the Braille display works fine! If I
disconnect and reconnect the USB, the bug appears again.

So the bug appears at the boot of the installer and when the brltty
daemon is already activated and has to detect the USB display.

My Braille display works, but I don’t manage to move in the screen with
the navigation keys. I can only pan 40 characters left and right, but
it’s wrong keys. Those keys are usually used to emulate up and down
arrow keys.

Thank you for your help.

Does this happen in the installed system too?

Which keys are these? From what I can read from bs.kti, the chosen
binding for navigation is

bind SpaceLeft FWINLT
bind SpaceRight FWINRT

bind B1+SpaceLeft LNBEG
bind B1+SpaceRight LNEND
bind B2+SpaceLeft TOP
bind B2+SpaceRight BOT
bind B3+SpaceLeft HWINLT
bind B3+SpaceRight HWINRT
bind B6+SpaceLeft CHRLT
bind B6+SpaceRight CHRRT

Are you talking about SpaceLeft/Right? Apparently it was definitely
chosen to be FWINLT/RT. If that should be fixed, please discuss on the
brltty mailing list.

It seems the Albatross driver probing gets stuck indeed, and thus the

not sure that'll make it for jessie 8.0
