Bug#782837: xfce4-session: Fails to shutdown/reboot or logout in stretch

2017-06-23 Thread Paul Hänsch
I can confirm that as of today this behaviour still exists in Debian Stretch.
The shutdown dialog is shown with all buttons enabled. Choosing an option only
closes the dialog. Subsequent invocations of the shutdown dialog only yield
the error message described in the original post.

I have tried this on clean installations using LightDM, LXDM, and noDM as
display managers, all with autologin. In all cases the shutdown dialog works
as expected when x11-xserver-utils is installed and stops working when this
package is not installed.

I have not yet tried whether this might be connected to the session saving
option. In all my tests session saving was enabled.

Bug#782837: xfce4-session: Fails to shutdown/reboot or logout.

2016-01-10 Thread Manolo Díaz
Package: xfce4-session
Version: 4.12.1-3
Followup-For: Bug #782837

Hi all,

I've found the same behaviour. All the information I can add is that
after trying to logout (with x11-xserver-utils uninstalled) these two
lines are appended to ~/.xfce4-session.verbose-log:

TRACE[xfsm-manager.c:1130] xfsm_manager_save_yourself_global(): enteringTRACE
[xfsm-manager.c:303] xfsm_manager_set_state():
state is now XFSM_MANAGER_SHUTDOWN

Best Regards,
Manolo Díaz

If I remove it afterwards, it stops working again.

Dear Maintainer,

the problem was also solved by installing the package x11-xserver-utils on a
fresh jessie machine.

I suggest adding x11-xserver-utils as a dependency.

Regards,

Dominik

It's quite unlikely to be required. What happens if you remove it
afterwards?

 My guess would be that slim doesn't correctly setup the session for
 you. It might be worth trying with lightdm and report back.

 Also, what loginctl gives you when logged in?

The same with LightDM. Loginctl shows:

With slim:

With lightdm:

 $ loginctl

Dear Maintainer,

When I try to reboot / shutdown or log off using xfce4-session-logout, nothing
happens and xfce4-session-logout just closes. When I try to start it again,
displayed a message Session manager must be in idle state when requesting a
shutdown.

Can you tell when that started to happen? Did you change something? Was
it after an upgrade? Which packages?
