Bug#785057: wiki.debian.org: unblock IPredator VPN

2015-09-03 Thread DNS
Hi guys,

i got the same problem that i use ippredator and it seems their whole ip
range is blocked for the wiki :-( wasn't it only single ips spammin?

In germany some freifunk communities use ippredator as vpn so all the
clients of these nodes won't be able to see any debian wiki page...
isn't it possible to only block write access at least?

Actually i couldn't find any other page on the net blocking ippredator
than wiki.debian.org, and no dnsbl has an entry of a ippredator ips that
ive checked http://multirbl.valli.org ...so i really wonder

Greetings

I took a look at this just now and this and the other exit node you
mentioned are/were in the host whitelist but the whole network is in
the network blacklist and the Debian wiki config code isn't properly
dealing with whitelisting hosts within blacklisted networks.

 1. on what basis you blacklist IPs,

Basically when spammers post. Also when they try to register we block
IPs based on a number of heuristics.

 2. if you have contacted the abuse contacts like IPredator, and

Steve regularly contacts abuse addresses but we seem to have some sort
of communications failure here so we should probably remove IPredator
from the blacklist until we see some issues.

 3. why you also ban reading the Wiki instead of writing or
 account-creation only?

This is how MoinMoin works, we will probably want to patch that.

We should probably make the blacklist time limited too.

We'll talk about this at the wiki BoF this week.

Steve McIntyre:
IPredator is blocked due to massive spam attacks. Despite reports to
their abuse contacts, the spam attacks continued. So they're blocked

I have contacted IPredator. They say, they have not received an abuse
mail about wiki.debian.org. And they contacted you after this bug report
- without reply:

Hi there,

One of our users pointed us to the following bug report:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=785057

It was mentioned in the report that we were contacted regarding possible
abuse but we can't find any record of that.

Can you please (re)send the information to ab...@ipredator.se ?

I am very sorry to hear that you have received spam attacks on your
wiki.
Our main goal is to provide anonymous and censorship free internetaccess
to users around the globe. It is a pity that only a few abusers can
cause enough trouble to block access to important parts of the internet.
We kindly ask you to allow at least read access to your wiki for our
legitimate users.

Please feel free to contact us if you need assistance with abuse
mitigation.

Kind regards,
Ruben

Bug#785057: wiki.debian.org: unblock IPredator VPN

2015-05-11 Thread ilf

Package: wiki.debian.org

Apparently, wiki.debian.org blocks requests from users of the IPredator
VPN service https://ipredator.se/.

Without my IPredator VPN, I can request https://wiki.debian.org/ (and
sub-pages) fine. With VPN, I always get a page saying:

Forbindden
You are not allowed to access this!

Currently, they give me an IPv4-address in the block 46.246.46.0/24.

Whatever the reason for the block was: please unblock VPN users.

If you can't, then please at least enable read-access, and maybe deny
account signup.

Thanks, and keep up the good work!

IPredator is blocked due to massive spam attacks. Despite reports to
their abuse contacts, the spam attacks continued. So they're blocked
and remain blocked. wiki.debian.org is far from the only site on the
net with this policy.

If you want to access the Debian wiki, don't use a known spam haven as
a transport. I'm not going to unblock IPredator.
