I tried installing qt-at-spi and running rosegarden, and it still is not
crashing
when selecting the menus? Is the Orca screen reader needed too?

worked around by renaming:
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt4/plugins/accessiblebridge/libqspiaccessiblebridge.so
to:
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt4/plugins/accessiblebridge/.libqspiaccessiblebridge.so
