I've also encountered this problem. rsnapshot is failing to recognise
that rsync has failed, and no longer performs a rollback for failed
backups.
This has been fixed upstream (commit 56723a52a10dd6d8904918c321a0540c498c15ad)

The new version seems to silently skip over unreachable hosts.
Sample session (using the old hourly, daily, etc interval
names):
