dgit needs to get rid of things like this. (Currently it bails if it
finds .git in the package toplevel, but I think it would be better if
it removed this, and .git anywhere

I have tried it out, and it seems to work, however there is a similar

I have updated the git branch (fast forward for now, although it will
not be an ancestor of 1.1):
BTW, while testing this I found that python-numpy's clean target edits
source files. This causes dgit builds
