Yes, ultimately, an Ubuntu derivative is a Debian derivative, but do we really want to add those? PureOS is a FSF-supported Debian derivative, so I plan to add that one to fill that free software purist lack.

So I suggest that we drop it for the stretch version of the book if the situation does not improve with a release until then. What about the other distributions suggested by Osamu? - Trisquel - SteamOS - Skolelinux I think it makes sense to document SteamOS because it's a big reference in the gaming world. Trisquel possibly to please the Free Software purists... but I'm not convinced. Skolelinux is Debian-Edu and is thus not strictly a derivative but a sub-project covered in chapter 1 already. I agree. I probably wouldn't have added it if the question arose today (I still don't particularly like the concept, and I'm even more unimpressed by the lack of release). But since the text is already written and the project is alive, I see no reason to actively remove it. I don't think the order means much... at least not further than the very first derivatives. That said the addition of Devuan was made by Roland Mas so I'll let him decide whether it should stay or not. I'm not a huge fan of that project and it seems to not have delivered much. But we have put explanations about our interrogation in the text so it's not a problem either to keep it for now... > Also "trisquel" which FSF endorsed is missing. [...] > *1) https://bugs.debian.org/686481 (incomplete state) I don't think we want to list all derivatives. Mainly those of generic interest... SteamOS can be interesting but I'm not sure about Trisquel and Skolinux. Package: debian-handbook Version: 8.20151209 Severity: wishlist Hi, While browsing the "Contents" section, I wonder why "Devuan" is listed at 9th even before other significant derivative such as "Raspbian" at 12th position. Also "trisquel" which FSF endorsed is missing. (Not that I liked some points to Debian raised by trisquel people on non-free mentioned in the documentation etc. *1, they are at least valid fork.) "skolinux" "steamOS" ... these epoch making distributions with government and corporate backings are also missing. "devuan" is not even listed on distrowatch and it is only a bogus web site. I think this entry should be removed with next minor updates, since "devuan" looks like nothing but scam to get donation for me.
