Dec 5 and the soft freeze on Jan 5, I would like to move forward with
the proposed changes so the package is in shape for stretch.

Adam, I do not wish to take over poppassd. If you could sponsor one
or two uploads (the latter for work on a systemd unit), that would be
ideal. Otherwise, my offer to help as interim co-maintainer stands.

this is true too, nobody will upload something without your prior consent of
course.
But since you are active, how do you feel about somebody sponsoring this one
with some changes?
e.g. we can convert in a Team Upload, add the previous NMU to changelog entry,
and fix the outstanding issues
(e.g. Peter did a lot of upstream nice work, that would be nice to see in 
Debian)
+* Version 1.8.7 - Peter Colberg optimized the build configuration to make 
distribution builds easier

also, the new release can be syncd in Ubuntu, since it contains the delta.

So, at the end it would be nice to do some refactoring for the package :)
Can this sound as a good plan?

An NMU for the RC bug was entirely appropriate.  Someone not responding

I have bugs in the BTS that are years old without responses.  If I took
over all those packages, I'd have even less free time than I do today,
and it would also be somewhat insane.

Following up on the NMU (#839859) uploaded last week thanks to Adam
Borowski, I am looking for a sponsor for a QA upload of poppassd.

If you decide to sponsor this package, please upload the source only
so that buildd logs are available for all archs. I will push a release
tag to the git repository after the package has been uploaded.

I suggest uploading this version to DELAYED/7 to allow the NMU to
migrate to testing and give the maintainer another week to respond.
