OOPS with kernel (4.9) in debian stable stretch:

When trying to boot with new debian stable (kernel 4.9), I get a kernel
oops: http://imgur.com/a/CybMP It seems to be related to nouveau, as you
see in the backtrace. (I end up booting from oldstable). I have purged
xserver-xorg-video-nouveau .. but the oops still happens.

To which, imirkin_ on freenode/#nouveau replies:
<imirkin_> that's a familiar issue
<imirkin_> it should be fixed in ... 4.12 or so?
<imirkin_> yeah... the fan logic gets all upset
<imirkin_> update your kernel to 4.12 and you'll be all set

I'd rather stay with the stable debian.

What's the protocol when the stable kernel leads to unbootable OOPS?
Would you backport the fix to the current kernel?
Or would you move the fixed kernel itself to stable?
