Wine should work without any issues since the upstream developers fixed the FTBFS and runtime bugs caused by the freetype upgrade. The upstream Wine team is still working on some minor font issues, but these will be fixed in git early next week. > Some people were complaining about issues with firefox/thunderbird, but > I cannot reproduce these on my machines. Firefox fixed their font rendering issue very quickly. But I don't know what was wrong with Thunderbird. And as an aside, I'm going to rebase the multi-arch freetype patches on Laurent's NMU once it enters Sid. (I've improved the patches over the current version in #870618.)

I rescheduled to deferred/15, just to make you aware of this possible side-effect At lest we should patch wine before trying to get new freetype in (assuming nothing else will break) Yes I saw that, I already extended the delay for 5 days the other day. It seems that wine is already patched upstream, so fixing it in debian shouldn't be too difficult (I guess). Some people were complaining about issues with firefox/thunderbird, but I cannot reproduce these on my machines.

Source: freetype Version: 2.8-0.2 Severity: wishlist Hi, 2.8.1 has been released and according to the website it provides: FreeType 2.8.1 has been released. This is mainly a maintenance release with one important change: By default, FreeType now offers high quality LCD-optimized output without resorting to ClearType techniques of resolution tripling and filtering. In this method, called Harmony, each color channel is generated separately after shifting the glyph outline, capitalizing on the fact that the color grids on LCD panels are shifted by a third of a pixel. This output is indistinguishable from ClearType with a light 3-tap filter.
