Today things are back to normal.
I updated quite a few testing-packets
since yesterday. I do not know, which of them was
responsible for the change, sorry.

Update:
For emacsclient to work in the console,
emacs --daemon must have been started in xterm.
It does not suffice to start it under X by clicking on
an icon which invokes emacsclient -a "".
strace emacs --daemon showed that the emacs-daemon was
killed by SIGSEGV.

entered on the console, kills the daemon and exits.
